How extra direction works
Every render sends the video model the consented photo, one reference clip and the instructions needed to put that person in the lead spot. The reference controls the desk, band, backing singers, horns and overall sequence.
A paid render can add up to 1,500 characters of your own direction. It is screened before rendering and supplements the reference rather than replacing it.
A simple structure
Useful directions are short, visual and focused on the lead:
- One line about clothing
- One line about expression or mood
- At most one small accessory or detail
- Plain, direct wording without links
Outfit directions
The model starts with the appearance in the source photo. If you want a change, keep it specific:
- Wearing a dark blazer over a plain shirt
- An office-casual outfit in blue
- A simple birthday jacket
- Keep the outfit from the source photo
Expression directions
Use one simple expression that fits the reference sequence:
- Smiling toward the band
- Relaxed and focused
- Happy but understated
- Looking pleased at the end
Small details to add
Limit details so the model can keep the main scene stable:
- A small birthday pin
- A simple watch
- A company-color pocket square
- A neat hairstyle matching the source photo
What to avoid
Some requests conflict with the reference or are refused:
- A different location, camera sequence or extra performers
- Instructions that try to replace the fixed 15-second scene
- Names or likenesses of celebrities and public figures
- Nudity, violence, weapons, drugs, minors or links
Tiny Desk AI direction FAQ
Do I need to write extra direction?
No. The reference clip already controls the scene. The extra direction is optional on a paid render.
How long can my direction be?
Up to 1,500 characters. One or two short lines are usually easier for the model to follow.
What language should I use?
Use short, direct wording that clearly describes the visual change you want.
Why was my direction refused?
Directions containing nudity, violence, weapons, drugs, minors, celebrities or links are refused. Rewrite it as a safe visual note about the consenting adult.
Add your own direction
Keep it short and let the reference clip handle the scene.
